Here is how to correctly install Avatar Upload.

The "Additional Info" is not too detailed.

Here is the instructions on how to get the plugin (currently) on your bbPress site:

1. Download and upload the plugin to your bbPlugins directory.
2. Activate the plugin in the bbPress Admin section.
3. Follow the file movement instructions:
In the "additional-files" folder (inside this Avatar Upload plugin directory) there is several files. These need to be moved elsewhere.

Move the entire "avatars/" folder to your bbPress root directory. (Including the "default.png" inside.)

Move the "avatar-upload.php" to the bbPress root directory.

Move the "avatar.php" (inside the "my-templates" folder) to your template(s) (theme(s)). Example: Move "my-templates/avatar.php" to "forums/bb-templates/kakumei/" (So it is like "forums/bb-templates/kakumei/avatar.php".)

I hope this helps someone :D

bbPress is not a plugin for WordPress. Just upload the bbpress folder to a subdirectory of your WordPress installation, then access the installer.

http://www.example.com/ <--- if this is WordPress

Then access that URL and start the installation.

> "Client API version 3.23.49" - I think bbPress requires at least version 4.0 MySQL

That's definitely the problem here. Just to clarify, your MySQL client library that PHP is using is too old. Adding new extensions to PHP in windows is comparatively easy. Check the PHP manual for info on how to do it, but basically you should have the extension you need somewhere in your PHP folder already. It's just a matter of moving it to the right place. Perhaps a windows person can help out here?

1. I know nothing about hosting bbPress on a Windows server.

2. The one thing that stands out to me is "Client API version 3.23.49" - I think bbPress requires at least version 4.0 MySQL. The Client API version is not always the same as the MySQL version installed, but maybe the problem is due to an old MySQL version?

Do you have access to a control panel or a shell where you can access something like phpMyAdmin to check the actual MySQL version installed?

Can you post the output from phpinfo? That error message comes up when the installation cannot find either the mysql or mysqli extensions. It's possible PHP was configured without those extensions.

Create a file (maybe name it info.php or anything.php) and put this into it:

<?php
phpinfo();
?>

Go to the location of that file with a web browser (like http://www.yourserver.com/info.php) and that will echo a whole bunch of data back about the PHP installation.

http://www.php.net/phpinfo

That would be the first step, seeing if your PHP was compiled with the proper modules for MySQL.

Hey,

well, i ve got this msg: Your PHP installation appears to be missing the MySQL which is required for bbPress.

And well, i have the config.php in the host already, with all the Database info on it. its alright, i checked more than twice, the file is on the correct folder (the only thing i did was change the dorectory name), but since i have 2 databases: one is version 4.x of MYSQL and the other 5.x i already tried with both Databases and i cannot make this happen...

What should i do?

Thanks!

ProSam,

bbRatings needs you to edit system files to include the tag code into them. Once you add these tags, it will work. I also am struggling with bbRatings, and would love to get a snippet of code that made us of the bb_top_topics() function. Anyone?

I'm new at bbpress so please bare with me.

I've searched and read the plugin instructions and I can't figure out how to get the plugins workin.

I created the my-plugins directory and added the plugins inside and yet nothing. Is there supposed to be a plugins management area in the admin? How are they activated? I'm confused.

I'm trying to add the following plugins (instructions included):
allow images = Add the
allow-images.php
file to bbPress'
my-plugins/
directory.
post notifications = Add
notification.php
to your
/my-plugins/
directory.
bb-ratings = Add
bb-ratings.php
,
bb-ratings.css
,
bb-ratings.js
, and
star.gif
to your
/my-plugins/
directory.

Also, the config.php editing thing was addressed for version .74 here:
http://trac.bbpress.org/ticket/477

<strong>Description</strong>
There are many common errors made when editing config.php.
We can check for these errors prior to installation refuse to install if things are out of whack.

It's not an install script, but it does at least validate the config. It won't prevent the errors but it will catch them.

Glad you fixed it.

edit: you're going to want to look at this thread to fix the freshness -1 years problem on your forum.

Nevermind, I fixed it.

Just kidding.

I hate it when people dont post how. :)

I left a ' in there after editing the config. It was unattached to anything.

Hence the error.

Again ^ re-iterating my suggestion that you take away the config editing at least superficially (ie you can if you really must) and have it as fields in a PHP form so you cant f*** it up.

I edited them all to FALSE

now I get!

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/virtual/site122/fst/var/www/html/bbpress/config.php on line 58

!!

What the heck?!

I've installed hundreds of php/sql portals and boards before and never had anything like this.

You guys could do a lot worse than just put together a complete php install script where you fill in the fields interactively ..

The amount of time I have to waste with this sort of stuff really affects my software selection. I could have installed PhPBB a hundred times over already.

Line 58 is:

define('BBPATH', dirname(__FILE__) . '/' );

I took the config down because it was publishing the entire file before the function error - ie all my passwords were freely advertised! :)

Anyway I tried again with a fresh config:

http://www.cjgavin.com/bbpress/bb-admin/install.php

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_VARIABLE in /home/virtual/site122/fst/var/www/html/bbpress/config.php on line 53

Better than undefined function. :)

(line 53) $bb->wp_home = 'http://www.cjgavin.com'; // WordPress - Options->General: Blog address (URL) // No trailing slash

Whats wrong with that??

Lines 52 > 54:

$bb->;wp_table_prefix = 'wp_;'
$bb->;wp_home = 'http://www.cjgavin.com';

When I go here:
http://www.cjgavin.com/bbpress/

I get this:

There doesn't seem to be a config.php file. I need this before we can get started. Open up config-sample.php, fill in your details, and save it as config.php.

Did you rename config-sample.php to config.php?

When I try to load config-sample.php directly, I get this error:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ':' in /home/virtual/site122/fst/var/www/html/bbpress/config-sample.php on line 53

Maybe that colon is related to one of the wp_ URL lines (URLs must be quoted.)

Hang in there: you're close.

It looks like not al of the files were uploaded to your host correctly (this is a notorious problem with FTP). Try deleting the files and uploading them again (just re-uploading them and hoping they will overwrite the old files may not work).
