bbSync would be fine however I want to import RSS feeds from blogs other than mine. Importing from my WordPress blog just won't do it.

I thought about possibly using feedwordpress plugin to pull the topics into wordpress then use bbSync to pull the topics into bbPress but...... that's getting pretty ugly and I really don't want to pull external feeds into my blog......

Would prefer to find a plugin which I can just point at a feed and it will create new topics into a forum of my choice (per rss feed).

I have heard of WordPress widgets being used to show the latest bbPress entries in a blog, but nothing I know of that will create a new entry in bbPress from an RSS feed.

Could you use bbSync to follow the RSS items that are imported into WordPress to create the new bbPress topics?

Hi,

I want to convert from my phpBB forum to bbPress however I need 1 more plugin to make it happen.

I need a Plugin for bbPress which will monitor RSS feed's and post new items into bbPress as a post.

Does anyone know of a free plugin which does this today?

For Wordpress, I'm using the Plugin - FeedWordpress
URL - http://projects.radgeek.com/feedwordpress/

It works great and has many great options. Hopefully something exists for bbPress.

Thanks!

XDForum, another Wordpress forum plug-in, stopped development a few months ago.

For anyone considering converting their XDForum to BBPress, I've posted detailed instructions for converting XDForum tables to BBPress tables on my site. The instructions include a method for tagging your existing content.

I looked for something like this a few months ago and couldn't find it. Hopefully, someone will find this useful. The result of the conversion can be viewed here...

I was halfway through creating a forum with Expression Engine when my client decided that Word Press was the way she wanted to go after all. I had created about 50 users, based on a Yahoo group of hers, and had input half the posts on that Yahoo group into the EE forum, logging in as the varied users and posting them individually, by hand.

DON'T want to repeat that effort. I'm hoping it will be simple to export a file of the users, import that into your BB forum, then do the same with the posts. Or it may be faster, more cost effective for her, to find someone here with the expertise to get that done.

Thanks for your attention to this.

The Google Summer of Code project for bbPress is going to focus on importers for bbPress, so if you are not using PHPBB2, you might want to wait until the GSOC project is over. There will probably be an announcement if they complete the tools.

Import/Export is being improved as part of a Google Summer of Code project. We will hopefully have some results from that to share by the end of it.

The basic idea is to create export plugins for other forum software which can export to a standard format. Then we will have one importer to import that standard format into bbPress.

hey guys,

i am trying to por t a vbulletin forum to bbpress. i've managed to port it first to phpbb2 and then to bbpress 0.7 via converters, but know i am stuck unable to upgrade bbpress to 0.9.

0.7 seems to be working fine on first glance and i can login i can see user posts. but when i try upgrading to 0.9 i get stuck in the database conversion with a time out error. i have a dedicated server and i have changed the timing restriction from 600 to 6000 but i still get that error after hours of execution.

can anyone lend a hand? i've spent countless hours now trying to get this thing up and running to no avail.

Would anyone be able to assist with testing a conversion script from IP.Board 2.3.4 to bbPress 0.9? I've started writing some code myself to handle the switch. It would be great if any other coders would be willing to assist with this too.

The way it will work currently is to generate a 'ipb2bb.sql' file that you can pass to mysql to upgrade the database. It will import users, categories, topics and posts. You can ask it to limit it's import to select categories only instead of all categories.

You want a better spider tool that can limit how many threads it uses, obeys robots.txt and uses a standard user agent.

Good luck getting all that into bbpress though. First you'll need to write a custom parser that can standardize the posts and topics into a clean format. Some was working on a bbPress xml importer but if you get the data organized enough you could parse it directly into mysql. Not a trivial project by any means but I guess you realize that .

Hopefully you know PHP or some other language that can help you parse all the data?

From 1998-2003, I ran a forum using the Network54 website. These forums were horrendous. There wasn't any user database... people just wrote their posts then filled in their name and an optional email address. (It's amazing I didn't get any spam during that five year period.)

My goal is to get all these posts into bbPress.

I was unable to spider the forum. Network54's server kicked in and blocked all attempts using Spiderzilla.

Here's the forum:
http://www.network54.com/Forum/3752/

Instead this is what I've done: There are 53 pages of posts. Some of them are threaded, some are not. On each page, there's a "View All Messages" link that will show you all of that's page's posts and threads on one single HTML page. Each thread is separated with an HR tag.

I downloaded each of these 53 "View All" pages. I just spent 20 minutes cleaning up the code from Page 1, and I'm left with a fairly lean page. Here's what I got for page 1:
http://www.judyhenskefan.com/viewall-page-1.htm

I will continue doing this for all 53 pages. Then I would like to separate out all the topics and posts, and put it into an "Archive" forum in my bbPress install. I'm trying to determine the best way of doing this...

For one, a lot of the users are not registered on the current forum. Some are, but used slightly different names. Some people never entered their optional email address at the Network54 forum, so I don't have a way to put everybody into a user account. I could match up a bunch of them, but not all of them.

How would you proceed, if you were me?

Just want to say THANK YOU!!

I gave up converting my phpBB forum months ago:
http://bbpress.org/forums/topic/a-phpbb-to-bbpress-database-converter/page/2

But by utilizing the info here (and buy editing the SQL file by hand), I was able to get my forum into the very latest bbPress... it's even integrated with WP.

http://www.judyhenskefan.com/forums/

Now I get to work on a new design for the forum and blog (as well as add lots of plugins to the new forum).

Thanks again everybody! :-)

yet another step.

if you want pretty permalinks you'll need to fill in topic_slug in bb_topics.

Here too!

This really should be good for promotion of bbPress, to have a converter for phpbb3 that is.
