Sorry for the really late reply. Didn't see my topic with a reply.

To bbPress' credit I got that error and alot more when intergrating the wordpress database and theme intergration (But it is currently alpha) and I am looking forward to the stable release of 1.0 now that I've seen it and essentially test drived it.

If your still having problems I can only assume your also using the 1.0 alpha as well, in which case I'd suggest you consider downgrading to WordPress 2.5.1 and bbPress 0.9.2. I did a couple days ago and it is very stable, the intergration is perfect and I have no problems with permalinks etc.

Well I've finally done it, Intergrated my WP blog theme with bbPress. It's not as hard as you think once you look around. Anyway check out my intergration here:

http://www.james-blogs.com (blog)
http://www.james-blogs.com/forum (forum)

(There are still 1 or two minor CSS errors but the intergration of Wordpress functions has been done successfully.

It's taken me a few days to figure it all out, but I've finally done it. Although it does sound like im bragging alot. I also want to share a website that could also help you do theme intergration:

http://bbpressraw.com/bbpress_blank_themes/

This site provides blank themes that are literally the bare minimum of CSS, but even better they provide blank themes in type so for example my blog layout is a 2 Column design. I would also find this layout on bbpressraw.com and then begin editing it.

Being able to get a pre-coded layout with the bare minimum needed within it, certainly helped me alot. And I was able to understand and modify to intergrate my blog theme into it.

I hope this website can help you to in intergrating your bbPress installation

_ck_,
Thank you for a fast reply.

And you were right!! That fixed it.

  This is my first time attempting to play with a plugin (except for some poking around with syle and "stuff"). Still, if I was paying attention I probably would have caught that!

Thanks again, I appreciate it!

It's because you are destroying
$user_id

This is wrong:

$user_id = bb_get_user( $user_id );
$bb_twitter = $user_id->social_twitter;

You should do:

$user = bb_get_user( $user_id );
$bb_twitter = $user->social_twitter;

$user_id
holds the id number, not the entire user object.

Hi,
I can not figure out what is causing one function in a plugin I am trying to make (modify) to cancel out another function from the same plugin on the same page.

  OK, did that make sense.

  Here are my examples.

bbSocialize - IF (and this is only an example) I want to display all the information from bbSocialize at the top of the profile and at the bottom of the profile, then it is ONLY displayed at the top (canceling the one one the bottom).

Avatar Upload - I can put the code in to display my avatar as many times as I want and it shows all of them.

I am not understanding why the bbSocialize code or functions are causing the second one to cancel out.

That is basically my problem.

I have modified bbSocialize in the sense that I have added A LOT to it including customizable fields. What I would like to do is have 2 or 3 functions pulling out certain information so that instead of all that info (or whatever you choose) being displayed in one area, you could break it up on the profile page and put some up top, some down on bottom, some in the middle or possibly floating to the right.....whatever. And of course the main function would be available to display all your selections.

I hope I made that clear enough.

Almost like the functions are not closing properly --- but I really don't know.

Ok, here is the basic bbsocialize funtion to display on the profile page.

// The following function can be used to display profiles on user-profile-page
function get_socialize() {
	global $user_id, $bb_current_user, $bb_socialize;

	$user_id = bb_get_user( $user_id );

	$bb_twitter = $user_id->social_twitter;

	echo '<div class="socialize_wrap">';
	if ( $bb_socialize['twitter'] == true ) { if ( !empty( $bb_twitter ) ) { echo '<dd><img src="'.$bb_socialize['images_url'].'/bb_twitter.png" width="16" height="16" border="0" />   <a href="http://twitter.com/'.$bb_twitter.'" title="User Twitter account" rel="'.$bb_socialize['links_rel'].'"><span>'.$bb_twitter.'</span></a></dd>'; } }

	echo '</div>';
}

Nice list but I've always found function lists fairly useless, though I guess if you have zero experience with how bbPress or WordPress works, they can give you a starting point with something to browse through.

What really helps is a trace of how functions flow when a page is loaded and what files they are located in.

I have an experimental version of bb-benchmark that does something like this using a trace feature from WordPress 2.6 but it's not available for public use yet.

Here is a function list for the v1.0 alpha one. As the developers do not add any documentation I found this on the net. You can you this by your own if you have an older or newer version of bbPress by doing this command in the terminal (linux or mac):

grep -oe ^function.*\) bb-includes/template-functions.php | sort > functions.txt

This idea is Tims (http://timjoh.com), I used updated his idea.

I'm using this method here: http://desbar.eu/
check the ABOUT page, for example

it works for me.

Keep in mind there are a lot of ways to make a static page.
1. The most simple is to create some about.php file.
It should looks like livibetter says:

<?php bb_get_header(); ?>
The static content here.
<?php bb_get_footer(); ?>

2. put this about.php in the root directory ( e.g. - the URL should be something like youbbPressSite.com/about.php )

3. Then call this URL from somewhere ( e.g. - put a link in the Header.php )

that's it.

PS: I've just been curious about the method above (livibetter version) - that's why I used it :) looks smoother at first site.

Hi,
Here is a quick php for it(Use this method at your own risk), you need pretty permalink to use it.

Save the following code in bbPress root folder as
page.php

<?php
require_once('./bb-load.php');
if (preg_match('/.*\/page\/(.*)/', $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'], $matches)) {
    $file = bb_slug_sanitize($matches[1]) . '.php';
    if (file_exists(bb_get_active_theme_folder() . "/static/$file")) {
        bb_load_template("static/" . $file);
        exit(0);
        }
    }
wp_redirect(bb_get_option('uri'));
?>

Put your static pages in a new
static
folder under your template folder, they should looks like

<?php bb_get_header(); ?>
The static content here.
<?php bb_get_footer(); ?>

Then you can access a static file. For example, access
test.php
(bb-templates/yourtemplate/static/test.php) at http://yoursite.com/bbpress/page/test

Remember: Use this method at your own risk

bbPress is installed in /forums and WPMU is installed in /blogs .
The cookie and database integration works fine.

I am able to access bbPress functions from within WPMU by adding this to the end of /blogs/wp-config.php

// Include bbPress functions in WPMU
define('WP_BB', true); // Avoid duplicate function declarations
require_once( ABSPATH . '../forums/bb-load.php');

I'm trying to add WPMU functions to bbPress. I've tried adding this to the beginning of /forums/config.php . I've also tried putting this in the beginning of the file.

require_once( dirname(__FILE__) . '/../blogs/wp-blog-header.php')

When I go to /forums/ I'm redirected to the WPMU sign up page (/blogs/wp-signup.php?new=%2F).

I've also created a simple file ( /test.php ) and tried to integrate it with wpmu. It it also redirected to the WPMU sign up page.

Test Start
<?php
require_once( dirname(__FILE__) . '/blogs/wp-blog-header.php');
?>
Test End

Do I need to create a WPMU rewrite rule in the wp_1_options rewrite rulerecord? There shouldn't be any need for an .htaccess rewrite rule since /forums and /blogs are not in subfolders of either.

Any ideas how to make this work?

I've been working on updating a theme to be more 'navigable'. I found the new_topic function could not be used when viewing a topic, so I modified the function to return a proper 'Add New Topic' link when called from a topic view (topic.php)

The code changes can be found in ticket 736:

Figured I'd throw this out there... I made a tiny function to generate a "reply" link anywhere in the topic. I'm using it in the post meta area to let the user quickly go to the post reply box.

function geek_post_reply_link(){
	global $topic;
	echo '<a href="'.get_topic_link($topic->topic_id,get_page_number( $topic->topic_posts )) . "#postform".'">Reply</a>';
}
