Hrm. I think we have it narrowed down to the fact that the email field is not showing up on the edit profile screen when trying to edit another user's profile. Since it's a required field it won't allow edits to any other fields.

I'm not sure why it's not there though. Digging... digging.....

I've been installing a copy of bbpress for a new site launch for a few weeks now. Mostly it's been going pretty smooth, but tonight I realized I'm not able to change any of my member profile settings as an admin.

My install is tied into Wordpress, and I can change user settings from the admin panel there, but from bbpress I cannot edit any settings for any users but myself. It almost looks as if some required field isn't being entered when I attempt to change anything. I get no error messages.

I've been wracking my brain for an hour on this and am totally stumped. I disabled all of my plugins but the problem persisted.

I need to be able to edit users! Halp!

I'm sorry, what are you seeing in the admin and what do you expect to see?

My experience is that in the admin, you will only see moderated topics (usually deleted ones.) That's why there are tables and submenus. It's much simpler than that though when you need to edit or moderate a reply or topic. You can do it while viewing the topic while logged in as keymaster. What are you unable to do?

You don't manage topics or posts from the admin. When logged in as administrator (keymaster) you just edit the topic at the bottom of the page, or individual replies are editable with the "edit" link beneath the reply.

Look there, not at the admin. The only thing that will show up in the admin are moderated replies or topics, things you've deleted usually.

Can you confirm that? I suspect that would not work either. I tried it in my forum, as a regular member, on a post I wrote a week ago, and I cannot edit it. Is it possible you have a longer time set for the edit lock? A really large number there will allow editing for a long time, and a negative number would probably make them editable by the member who wrote it forever, without expiration.

By default, members should not be able to edit any other members posts, and members should only be able to edit their own posts for the configured period of time. Keymasters can edit anything at any time. Is that not your experience?

I just checked on my bbPress installation and that does not work. It just redirects to the forum home page when I am not logged in. When I log in and try to access the edit.php url, I get redirected to the forum home page as well.

I just checked on your forum and I cannot edit posts made by anyone else when I am not logged in. When I log in, I still cannot edit posts made by any other members. I tried this URL:
http://www.cairoshell.com/forum/edit.php?id=10314

FYI, the member who created the reply can edit the post for a period of time that is set in bb-config.php. And keymasters can edit posts made by anyone for an indefinite period of time. Is it possible you are using a plugin that gives members more permission than normal? Or that the user seeing this edit functionality is logged in as a keymaster?

I am not seeing the problem you describe, so if your users can edit other members posts, you need to look at the permissions that they have. The default installation does not do this in any forum I've checked, including this forum, your forum and my own forum.

Hi

Just installed bbPress and noticed that peoples email addresses are displayed on the profile pages. I would prefer if users email addresses were not displayed on their profile page.

However I cannot find where to edit what user information is displayed on the profile. All I can find in the profile.php is a call called bb_profile_data();.

The keymaster can always go in and edit any post. Your users could email any corrections to the keymaster. You don't really want people going in and changing their words. With no limit, you have no control over the edits they can actually make and they would not be limited to grammar or spelling.

Did you try making any changes to the
$bb->edit_lock
in the config and see the effect? 1440 is one day worth of minutes and 525600 is a year worth of minutes. I doubt there is any problem making a change like that, but you would need to try it to be sure. I just tried 525600 and I was able to edit some of my old (non-keymaster) posts.

I wonder if -1 would allow them to be edited infinitely? Worth a try...

I have some very neat users who like to edit their posts when they make spelling/grammar errors. But bbPress will only allow them to edit until a specified time is up. Is there a way that I can set the time limit to none or something like that? If not, is there anything bad about setting the limit to something like 999999?

I forgot my password and asked for a reset, and I received an email with a link which sent me another email with a new password.

But when I used the new password even though I was logged on, I got a message which said "Key not found" or something similar.

Also the profile edit page, looks a bit odd on Firefox.
