A little about me: I'm working on a hobby web site. It was going to have a forum, a few database-based applications I've written the back-end for, and in the process of deciding what should go on the front page, I figured I should start a blog too. I have a version of the site sort of written using phpBB as the the forum and the templating engine for the web apps, but it's very frustrating getting phpBB to do what I want it to do...you really can't do much without editing the core code. On the recommendation of a co-worker, I decided to check out WordPress/bbPress. I'm not sure WP/bbPress is the right solution, but I haven't found anything I like better....it seems like it's pretty easy to rearrange things on the page and add new elements as needed.

What I want: My forum should appear on the site similar to a Page. I don't think I need "deep integration"...I'm not terribly concerned about data integration, other than the fact that signing into WP should sign you into the forums and vice versa. I don't need the forum to be able to interact with other pages on the site...if I need data from my other apps in the forum, I'll just grab it from the database using a forum plugin. But I am concerned about appearance integration...I want the WP header and footer, including my logo and nav bar, to show up at the top of the forum page, and I want the forum theme to be similar to (if not identical to) the WP theme.

What's the safest way to make this happen? I'm very new to WP/bbPress, but I'm not afraid to write code...a certain major website pays me a good bit of money do so during the week :)

For example paragraph tags are stripped inside of backticks.

Um, no you missed my point. I didn't enter an htmlentity,
I simply entered the ampersand symbol. bbPress converts it to an htmlentity
and then your plugin converts it to a trac code.

only way now to get a real & is to enter
&
  or put it in backticks
&

There's is still a problem with htmlentities, you either call your filter too soon or too late after bbPress does it's autop, etc.

demo of bug:
WordPress & bbPress

(the and symbol is converted into an htmlentitiy, then your plugin sees the # and makes it a link) Broken all over bbpress.org

You could make sure the pattern doesn't end with a semicolon or maybe set priority 9.

bbPress is the
#1
forum software for do-it-yourselfers
nope, still broken in backticks.

testing some more:
Joe User
100 Main Street Suite #17
Anywhere, USA

nope ;-) In fact it removed the space between
Suite
and
#17

[trac=123]see this ticket[/trac] or [trac]123[/trac] would be better.
Or just copy the entire url out of trac once you've looked up the number anyway.

I've just added the ability to directly link to Trac tickets and changesets within your posts, for example...

Just typing #964 links to ticket 964 in Trac that follows the progress of the XML-RPC interface.

Typing [1832] links to changeset 1832 in Trac.

You can also link to BackPress tickets ( #BP7 and [BP170] ) and WordPress tickets ( #WP2012 and [WP10043] )

Hello, I'm looking to hire a developer to create a OpenID login plugin for bbpress, which I really need for my community. I know there has been several discussions about this topic but I really believe OpenID for bbpress is important and necesary.

So I am looking for someone willing to create a plugin. If anyone is interested, please send me your inquiries to: e@arcos.cc -- I would really like the plugin to work on 0.9.x and 1.0.x versions of bbpress which I understand are quite different.

I suspect most of the efforts are probably going into BackPress so they can get TalkPress going (the wordpress.com version of bbpress). bbPress is benefiting from the work but I doubt we'll see the resources you are requesting anytime this year (at least not until 1.0 is out)

Is there a version 1.0 development plan anywhere? I'm curious what new features we'll be seeing in bbPress.

Additionally, are there plans to update the web site design (like wordpress.org) and add a Codex?

That "future of bbpress" announcement in January was very exciting, but it doesn't seem like much as happen since then. Other than the WP 2.5 integration of course, which is great don't get me wrong.
