Thanks chrishajer.. I will take a look. bbSync seems good.. i just read too many comments of people complaining about it... but maybe they don't know how to use it :)

I will give it a try this next couple of weeks and let you know of results.

I know this has been talked about before and some people disagree... but i will ask cause i am not wanting you to work for me.. i just need some guidance...

I know some php and mysql.. i understand queries , functions.. and all that basic php/mysql implemantation... i also understand relational databases... what i dont understand is how plugin works... hooks, api.... and all that techninality people talk of at wordpress.org

Having sad that.. this is what I am trying to accomplish in order to integrate both bbpress and wordpress..

Create a forum category in wordpress, so when i post i select the regular category..(ex: news) and if I want that news to be posted in the forum i also select the "forum" category.

Then i create a relational table that contains all post ids.. and the forum posts ids... that way i can quickly pull the info in bbpress and/or wordpress..

What I dont know is how to integrate this in the Write Panel... because i don´t understand it how it works. If someone can help me to understand it.. i could create a query on the write panel to post to the forum whenever i select the "forum" category

that could also be a plugin.. but i dont kno whow to make plugins... mabe somone can point me out to a tutorial...

Anyway... bbpress is nice.. and wordpress is awesome. Thanks for working so hard to make this possible.

Never mind. I fixed it myself. I checked my comments.php (on your themes wp-content/themes/your selected theme/ folder) and to my surprise it was empty!.. So what i did is open the original comments.php from my back-ups. And copy all the contents and paste it to the empty comment.php. That's it, all comments are there now.

Hi,
I installed bbpress yesterday. I followed the installation guide and the forum was successfully installed. I have a seperate database for my bbpress.

I have not integrated our wordpress blog to the bbpress forum. I also did not changed our wordpress settings like "users must be registered to login or comment".

Today, I just noticed that the comments on our wordpress blog are gone. You can see them in the wordpress dashboard but when you visit the post for example here:
http://www.rewardcreditcardsite.com/how-to-spot-a-non-rewarding-credit-card/

It says it has "3 comments" but you can't see the comments or comment box.

I removed the bbpress, but it didnt bring my comments back. Can anyone help? Thanks

I am experiencing the same problem as well.

I think it has something to do with user roles, as a registered BBpress user does not have get a defined role in Wordpress (i.e author, contributor, editor etc...).

It would be easier if a default wordpress role was automatically assigned to a user that registers via bbpress.

If anyone has any ideas/solutions it would be much appreciated.

I have WP 2.5 and bbPress 0.9.0.2 working together. But when a user creates a new account via bbPress, the display_name column in wp_users is blank.

When logged-in users post a comment on my blog, they're marked as "Anonymous". Anyone know how to fix this?

I can copy the user_login data over to display_name manually, but I'd like it to populate display_name automatically when the record s created.

In THEORY you could use the forum database table for the blog. A blog would be a new topic in which people could reply. Adding a filter would seperate the blog-forums from the normal forum.

This way, the database doesn't have to be extended, a simple filter would do... plus it would be easier to code as a plugin

Well in theory

Just filter it:
blog name = forum name
blog topic = forum topic
blog reply = forum reply

blog is filtered from the forum and only topic owner can add/edit here.

To make it more simple, when a user makes a blog a forum called "userblogs" (must be unique so a series of numbers could be added) is created and filtered (hidden). Then when loading a profile page it checks the forum "userblogs" where topic starter = profilename and it shows the "blogs" of that profile name...

Hope you understand what I mean, goodluck

To be honest, I'm just mixing all sorts of code together to see what I get. I went through a lot of trail and error and this was my result. I think I'm going to have to get a couple of people to hep me in this project.

Here is the current plugin I'm working on. It deals a lot with just adding files to the root and editing profile.php. So far I've set up the blog, where you're able to make a post (see image), edit/delete it, and display it on the user page. All I need to do is set it up so it can be used for users to create their own blog.

http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/6891/pluginscreenshotjl2.jpg

Other features in the works are:

Comments (as you can see in the preview)
Music Player (going to make it so that it grabs from the server and displays a flash player)
About Me, Friends section, etc
Choice of theme for profile
Galleries
... And whatever else I can think of. As I've said, it's work in progress.

if this were done, I'm hoping it would be a fully integrated system in wordpress and bbpress. it would be nice of both applications "realize" they're both there in the same website and perform integrated functions themselves by means of one plugin in each wp and bbp.

There is a plugin here called 'bbPress Post' that integrates your wordpress blog comments into your bbPress forum as topics for posts. Fel64 also 'redid' this plugin and has it so the posts are created in the bbPress forum from the wordpress blog and all comments are in the forum, but also show up in the wordpress post as comments as well.

Other software blog programs, I haven't heard of any. Moving over to Wordpress is a good option in my mind if you haven't looked at it already since bbPress and WP are made and developed by many of the same people ;)

Hi,

Was wondering if there is a way to enable registered users to vote(or rate) other users comments & replies.

Thanks

The list has been quiet for a while. The last message I have is Volume 30, Issue 1 from May 11, 2007. The one prior to that was Volume 29, Issue 17 dated April 23, 2007.

How does this crazy devlist thing work? Signed up but got no emails, so I assume no-one's talking. I send an email to
bbdev@lists.bbpress.org
? I don't want to completely break etiquette or somesuch first time, so I thought I'd wait and see but there isn't that much to see.
