You would need to include WordPress in your bbPress installation to have access to all the WordPress functions.

http://bbpress.org/documentation/integration-with-wordpress/#func

Sharing the database does not allow you to use WordPress functions from within bbPress.

Hello,

I'm new to Wordpress and BBpress but I like the simplicity involved in using them. Currently, I have a wordpress site and a bbpress site that share a database. The wordpress site uses the Event Calendar plugin+widget to display its calendar and in the readme for Event Calendar I found the following:

Add the
   following code to your sidebar.php:

     Event Calendar:
     <li>
       <?php ec3_get_calendar(); ?>
     </li>

     Upcoming Events:
     <li>Events
       <?php ec3_get_events(5); ?>
     </li>

   If you are using an older template, then you should check that your HTML
   header contains the following tag: <?php wp_head(); ?>

I'd like to add the Event Calendar to my BBpress sidebar; however, this solution doesn't appear to work. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

who knows...maybe CalendarPress will be coming soon. I joke, but really, I would try integrating wordpress and bbpress, and then using the event calendar plugin for wordpress. It is not full-screen unfortunately, but it is a very good calendar for keeping track of events.

Searching hotscripts brings up 261 results! ! ! Not sure (as I have never used one before) which one would be best for you, but until someone gets you on the straight and arrow it is a place to start searching!

http://www.hotscripts.com/search/13664700.html

As well, sometimes they have these kinds of discussions on WP.org forums:

Somewhat off topic, we're trying out bbPress as a tool for our Board of Directors.

What would make it invaluable would be a good calendar function to track events, and tasks that need to precede events.

I'm thinking of something that looks like google calendar, full page and easy to read. I guess we could just embed the google calendar into a page on our site but would prefer something that we can install and maintain on our own server.

Maybe a bbPress plugin, maybe something standalone - I don't care.
Suggestions?
