I've installed this on three sites so far and have the following issues:

1. I don't have the admin setting that is in the file that comes up with the link on the integration settings page for wp. If it isn't there how am I supposed to give the setting to bbpress? I was able to find everything else. That setting isn't in any of the three WP-MU sites I've installed bbpress alpha 2 on. They're all using 2.6.2 or 2.6.3.

2. As keymaster, I cannot undelete a thread. I just get an error saying "An unidentified error has occurred."

3. The "new topic" link is active even when no one is logged in. This link shouldn't appear if no one is logged in. I normally get a 404 error page when I click on it without being logged in.

4. One one site, I couldn't start a thread. as soon as it was submitted, I was told it was deleted or moderated or something like that.

I needed to put a writeable .htaccess containing "Options +MultiViews" in my bbpress root for "pretty permalinks" to work -- there wasn't one by default.

Perhaps your old install had one and you didn't copy it over during the upgrade.

Let me premise this by stating that I installed an "integrated" version of the upgrade (BTW, the instructions could be a LOT clearer on this process - not everyone is experienced with php).

I was planning on spending some time on this later, but on this subject (links), my original links were set to "Numeric .../forums/1". After upgrading, links from my web sites to the bbPress section no longer worked and generated a 404 error. I looked at the links within the bbPress site and they looked fine. For instance, a "sticky" topic I link to from all my web sites is "http://www.masterdata.com/forum/bbpress/topic/62" (I copied the shortcut with a right click on the link). It looks correct, but it does not work. Not even within the bbPress section and certainly not from the outside coming in.

So I switched the setting on my "Pretty permalink type" to "None .../forums.php?id=1". With this setting, everything once again worked. I left it this way, but these are definitely not "pretty" links. The link to the same topic is now "http://www.masterdata.com/forum/bbpress/topic.php?id=62". BTW, "Name based ..." links do not work either.

OK, that is the first issue. There are more and I will detail those tomorrow, each one in its own separate topic as suggested above.

Let me, however, compliment everyone who has been involved in this project and WordPress. Both efforts are truly beyond belief in terms of what you get by simply downloading some code from the internet. ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT! So good, in fact, you spoil us to the point where we expect everything to be close to perfect at all times. That is a bit irrational and the experience with both programs should be graciously appreciated. Thank you for your work!

Best

You definitely need to post examples of bugs you encounter. There are numerous bug fixes in 0.9 vs 0.8

Perhaps you are simply encountering plugin incompatibilities?

"numerous link revisions" ???
How can your url's change unless you disabled slugs or visa/versa? That much didn't change in 0.9

I think it would be best to list the bugs you encounter and then fix them one by one. I can tell you that the developers are hard at work based on the traffic generated on the development list. But if they don't know of the problems, they can't fix them. So, please, list your problems in the forum, preferably one post per problem if they are unrelated, with a good subject for each problem.

Some problems undoubtedly have solutions that have already been incorporated into the trunk release. Some will be bugs that need to be addressed in trac tickets.

I upgraded from the previous .8 version to the new .9.0.2 version. After struggling to get it to work at all, it now seems to be running in a stable manner (?). I must admit, I am more than a little disappointed in this new version. It is full of bugs that must be worked around and require numerous link revisions from my various web sites to get to the proper pages.

There are so many bugs, I don't know where to begin. If you want me to, I will begin to list them as encountered. If you do not reply to this post, I will assume your priorities are somewhere else other than smoothing out this version.

Just installed/activated your "Human Test" plug-in. I am using bbPress version 0.8.3.1. Everything works fine. No issues.

Thank you.

By the way, I heard of WordPress for the first time on Sunday, found it a few minutes later, installed it a few minutes after that and input two years of articles I had written that same day. I installed a few plug-ins the next day and then found bbPress. Installed that the same day (Monday). It was working fine and found a matching template for both WordPress and bbPress the next day (Wednesday). With very little tweaking (mostly my errors) and no visits to the WordPress or bbPress forums for help, I am up and running with a very presentable, professional looking, and fully functional blog/user forum. Absolutely incredible!!! I am notifying my subscribers later this morning about their new resource via email. Not bad for four days of work.

Thank you good folks behind WordPress and bbPress!

With all those links in the posts, it appears that akismet is not working. Do you have an akismet ket and is it entered in your config.php? That would prevent the posts loaded with links, in any case.

Regarding the registrations, there is a "Human Test" plugin that might help:
http://bbpress.org/forums/topic/signupregistration-captcha#post-13429

Or, maybe something more complex like a CAPTCHA:
http://bbpress.org/forums/topic/spam-registration#post-11879

Hi- We've been trying in desperation to stop spambots from registering profiles on our very active bbpress forums, and despite the captcha test we installed, it seems they are circumventing the registration process and creating new accounts all the time. We're getting around 50 fake profiles a day.

We're being told by several sources that this is a bug in the current version of bbpress and there is no solution for it. We simply can't accept this, that bbpress would be open to such severe bugs.

Right now we're manually deleting profiles and we're seriously considering abandoning this plattform for a more secure foums solution that works with Wordpress.

Do you have any insight into how to stop them from creating bogus profiles? Right now for some reason they are all having their birthday as Feb 2, 2008.

You can see some of the profiles here:

Hi there, (not sure if this is an appropriate place to post this.)

We're looking for someone to hire to help us fix some bugs on our Wordpress/Bbpress integrated site. Here are some of the bugs:

1- user profile pics missing from blog comments
2- Backslashes appear in blog comments
3- Backslashes appear if you modify any php files via the wordpress interface.
4- User names with apostrophes, accents or usual characters display oddly
5- Cant modfiy the way a author or user name displays
6- private messaging is disabled
7- users can't modify profile pictures.

Feel free to look around and see the bugs: www.feastoffools.net

I've recently enabled the hard cache, to see how it handles on a test forum with only a few users. The first problem I've come across has been an error with $bb_cache->get_forums() - the array it was returning when cached was 0, instead of containing the forum ids.

I fixed it by a simple reversal of the sections of code within the get_forums() function in cache.php:

$forums = (array) $bbdb->get_results("SELECT * FROM $bbdb->forums $where ORDER BY forum_order");
if ( $this->use_cache && $normal && $forums )
	$this->write_cache(BBPATH . 'bb-cache/bb_forums', $forums);

$_forums = array();
foreach ( $forums as $forum )
	$_forums[(int) $forum->forum_id] = $bb_forum_cache[(int) $forum->forum_id] = $forum;

After reversing them (the above are their original positions), I then made sure the write cache line was using $_forums, instead of $forums.

No idea if this may have other consequences I've yet to unearth, but I thought it may be worth noting here.

I've also used the "load all options" function from wordpress as a basis for creating a global array containing all topicmeta options. By default (even with cache enabled, although maybe I've missed a setting), there were several calls to to topicmeta, whereas only one was really required.

Worked for me, although initially highlighted another @strpos error in the functions.php script.

However setting is bozo to 1 in the admin pages creates the appropriate row in the meta table for the user, setting it back to zero deletes the row, rather than setting the value to zero (which is presumably why the box remains blank) while it works, it seems an odd way of doing it!

(Just realised I am being critical of someone else's work without the ability to do it better myself - my apologies - I suppose I ought to get down a book on PHP and try and actively contribute rather than just fault find...)

Perhaps you should name this the "bbPress 0.8.1 Tuneup Plugin" in line with Mark Jaquith. :)
