Hello,

Finally was able to get the Forum installed - like it so far. :) However, with my blog www.itshaunted.com members are contributors and each has an extended role; however, When members sign-up Forum FIRST his/her membership is considered a role: NONE for the blog. How can I change the role in the forum to match the assigned role in the blog? Simply meaning, you sign up via blog FIRST your role is a contributor; however, if you sign up Forum FIRST your default assigned role is NONE.

Thanks in advance.

This sounds wonderful, and will be really helpful in driving traffic around inside our site. Thank you!

What version are you using? For older version, the bbPress plugin bbSync does what you want. For the newer alpha versions, there is bbPress live, a WordPress plugin.

I'm wondering if this is possible-

We have our wordpress blog Feast of Fools tied together with bbPress forums, and I was wondering if there was a way for bbPress to treat the comments on a blog entry as a topic in the forums.

This way, popular blog entries would "float" to the top in the same way that bbpress forum entries do.

Any ideas? It this already a function we don't know about?

The script from the website that you gave me...
There is stuff in wordpress everywhere saying on the top of the thing (like the top of the page)(but it only happens in the admin control panel) saying

bbPress database error: [Table 'c4cwp.wp__users' doesn't exist]

For a simple (!!!) project I'm using WP and BBpress: I've change all the precedure for the users registration in BBpress and I like to integrate it with WP.
I've perfectly integrate the forum with the blog (including the function file in bb-congif.php), but I cannot understand how can I include the registration block in WP.
Can someone give me any kind of information?

In THEORY you could use the forum database table for the blog. A blog would be a new topic in which people could reply. Adding a filter would seperate the blog-forums from the normal forum.

This way, the database doesn't have to be extended, a simple filter would do... plus it would be easier to code as a plugin

Well in theory

Just filter it:
blog name = forum name
blog topic = forum topic
blog reply = forum reply

blog is filtered from the forum and only topic owner can add/edit here.

To make it more simple, when a user makes a blog a forum called "userblogs" (must be unique so a series of numbers could be added) is created and filtered (hidden). Then when loading a profile page it checks the forum "userblogs" where topic starter = profilename and it shows the "blogs" of that profile name...

Hope you understand what I mean, goodluck

I'm currently trying to get the database extended (have never coded in my life). And yes, people will be able to reply, just haven't added the code yet. To be honest, I'm just mixing all sorts of code together to see what I get. I went through a lot of trail and error and this was my result. I think I'm going to have to get a couple of people to hep me in this project.

I kinda like the blog idea, it's something totaly new for a forum and personalises the profile page a lot. Are the blogs saved in a hidden forum or is the database extended? (profile table). And can people reply?

Here is the current plugin I'm working on. It deals a lot with just adding files to the root and editing profile.php. So far I've set up the blog, where you're able to make a post (see image), edit/delete it, and display it on the user page. All I need to do is set it up so it can be used for users to create their own blog.

http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/6891/pluginscreenshotjl2.jpg

Other features in the works are:

Comments (as you can see in the preview)
Music Player (going to make it so that it grabs from the server and displays a flash player)
About Me, Friends section, etc
Choice of theme for profile
Galleries
... And whatever else I can think of. As I've said, it's work in progress.

Yup.. me too..
and my biggest sorrow is for WPMU, where there's so less documentation about it.

Hi guys,

I am currently looking into deploying a site powered by Wordpress. I have a phpBB3 forum (with no users) which I would like to keep. I have seen the wp-united plugin for phpBB3, but it isn't currently being supported. The option of using bbPress seems good to me, but I would like a seamless and fully functional integration with both Wordpress and Wordpress MU.

If I have to ditch the phpBB3 for the functionality I desire I will do it. I know what my potential userbase will want (post count, ranks, avatars, signatures, embed pics/vids in post, search, PM, etc). For the view, I would like a topic and post count, last post, and a description of each forum. Also subforums would be nice too.

Right now I only have a rudimentary understanding of PHP, but I know HTML and CSS, so I could style the forum myself.

I am a big fan of open source software. I only feel that there isn't enough cooperation in the open source world. It would be awesome to see some of the best open source projects come together to create a mega kickass platform. My ideal would be (Drupal - please don't flame me for this one -,Wordpress, and phpBB3). Drupal for the management of pages and function, Wordpress for the content publishing, and phpBB3 for the forum.

When I achieve proficiency with PHP I will try to develop a universal user/session platform where the login and session is unified with whatever software you decide to install on top of it. This would be an internal database, not an openly accessible one. I have heard of OpenID, but don't know anything about it.

Wordpress appears to be the best content publishing engine out there, hopefully they become the best forum out there too.

I too am jazzed about the prospects of a Wordpress powered forum.

Any opinions, best way to learn PHP, etc?

BTW, this thread is starting to sound like the beginnings of a development group. Mods, plugins, and software to follow soon.

I have found this discussion very stimulating, and would like to participate in future developments. I could deploy a site to use as a testbed.
