How does a downgrade actually work? I didn't think there was a downgrade function, I figured you just reinstalled the old version from a database and filesystem backup, or installed the old version fresh if you didn't have any content to worry about anyway.

How are people actually going about the downgrade?

Here's a question I had not considered before but is important. When you downgrade in WP and bbPress, does the re-install also downgrade the db version number? I hope so, or things will completely break.

I don't know - what's easier for you, downgrading to 2.5.1 or upgrading to an alpha release of bbPress?

Personally, if I needed integration between WordPress and bbPress, I would install the 0.9.0.2 of bbPress and 2.5.1 of WordPress. Alpha software should be used for testing only.

what's easier?

Wish it were that simple, but no, no role plugins... I was playing with one a few weeks back but it didn't do what I wanted and was never activated.

I can't think of anything that would mess with usernames... All my plugins are menu, useronline gadget, forms, feedburner, etc... Nothing that would make that kind of impact...

Good idear, but back to the drawing board...
Thanks for your help...

Are you using any custom role plugins with WordPress or anything that changes the display name? I think those things mess with the integrated logins.

Your setup is fine. The URLs are supposed to be the same in config.php. And once you have it working you can log in in WordPress and still be logged in in bbPress. It's just an issue of getting it right.

I'm having cookie issues, I think.

My WP is in the root... www.blahblahblah.com takes you straight to wp blog. So in my bb config.php I have two paths that are the same...

$bb->wp_home =
$bb->wp_siteurl =

Both have the same path. Not sure if that's relevant but it seems odd to me. Anyway, bb is in a sub dir off that.... so it's blahblahblah.com/community/

The sites pull and add usernames from and to the same place, so the users are automatically added appropriately, but if I'm logged in to one or the other and switch, I have to log in all over again... Not a big thing, but I'm guessing that's not necessary...

After searching through the forums I can't seem to find anything specific enough to help me figure out what to do or where to do it. The FAQ seems to indicate that it should work "out of the box" because the cookies are in the same location... All the other examples I see have their wp and bb as a subfolder of the root...

I'm sure I'm just not searching for the correct tags but I seem to be at a loss...

Trent, does the maintainer of the code know the localhost problem exists (yes, even with path-to-url.2.php plugin)? The only way I've managed to get around it is by directly editing the "bb-templates/kakumei" files.

Also, another note, I'm using lighttpd on a windows machine. This probably adds to the slash havoc.

flatworm, also, you can contact me via email and I will help get you running off-list. See my profile, go to that website and follow the the "contact us" link and email to support. I will help you out. You don't need to get into the development of bbPress.

Also, you're not experiencing 'errors with graphics' you've got a problem with the path to your stylesheet. That's all. That may very well be a bug, but all software has bugs. Don't just trade one problem for another.

vanilla support forum: http://lussumo.com/community/9/

Also, did you ever look in a rendered page (in your browser) for the stylesheet line? If you do see that (use 'view source' or something similar in your browser when you pull up a page similar to the one you took a screenshot of) post the information from that stylesheet line. My guess is that the slashes are backslashes.

Also, I never understood the point of installing community/forum software on localhost, unless it's just for testing. Even if that's the case, I prefer to test in the environment where it will be live so you're not solving problems that won't ever happen once it's live, and you won't experience new problems that you didn't anticipate.

But, contact me off-forum and I will help you.

I understand your frustration on this issue flatworm, but as ChrisHajer has already told you, there has been some issue with installating bbPress on localhost. Go through the tickets that were linked above so you can get a better idea of the issues and maybe try this.

That is unstyled because the path to the style.css file is incorrect. Can you look at the source of that html page and find the line that begins:

<link rel=\"stylesheet\"

My guess is that the path to your stylesheet is incorrect. There have been a couple threads about slashes being changed to back slashes improperly:

http://bbpress.org/forums/topic/700?replies=28

Even more relevant for localhost:
http://bbpress.org/forums/topic/730?replies=9

Here is a trac ticket for the backslash issue:
http://trac.bbpress.org/ticket/594

HTH

edit: there will not be slashes before the double quotes in your html source around stylesheet , unlike this post. It's a bug they're working on.

flatworm, how about a URL so we can see what you're talking about? Sounds like the path to your stylesheet is not being found, so the pages are all ugly. But a URL would be helpful in seeing exactly what you're talking about.

Yes. If i would not save my config.php, this thing would not install.
Does this thing have to be connected to wordpress?
Does it have it's own pictures for graphics or it relies on wordpress?
