I've had the same problem and have also "fixed" it by disabling the Allow Images plugin.

I'm going to give the BBcode plugin a go, though if bbPress isn't going to implement a rich text editor (and I don't think it should) then a far better solution would be to use a lightweight markup system like Textile and/or Markdown.

I had this same issue, and I really like having images, so I looked into the code. I am not very savvy about reg expressions, so but if I comment out line 29 (

(.*?)
$text = preg_replace("|
) from the allow_images_encode_bad function of the plugin, everything seems to work.

Does anyone know if I need that line for anything else? I don't want to open my site up to hackers or some such thing.

It's a bug.

I'ma guess you have Allow Images? At least for me, without AI backticks work fine, with AI they don't - I guess one of the code handling functions is broken by AI.

Hi,

according this post form I have to put code between "Backticks".

This will not work (at least on my website), if I use the backticks most from the post will disappear. To show code I use the "code" html element, this works fine until I edit the post after submission. bbpress will replace the code tags with backticks.

Is this a bug or a php limit? (I remember me somthing with the backticks and php)

A backtick is not an apostrophe or single quote, it's the key that normally has a tilde in it as well. Check this picture, it's the upper left key, in red. That's a backtick and it's different than a normal single quote or apostrophe.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:KB_US-International.svg

For the terminology regarding HTML, you can easily add additional instructions for your users. The files you need to modify are in your template directory and called edit-form.php and post-form.php. You can link to a popup with additional instructions (which you would need to create for your users), or just add more verbose instructions there. It's your forum: you can do whatever you want.

Also, even if your users don't get it, they can still post. Things that look like links become links automatically, and the post will still be useful without italics and bold.

But, for backticks, you're using the wrong key. It's not the quote key, look on the upper left by the ESC key (on a US keyboard anyway.)

I am the admin for a new bbpress forum. First, I cannot get backticks to work. Maybe I'm interpreting the word incorrectly, but when I try to use backticks, like this...

'strong'bold this'strong'...or 'strong'bold this'/strong'

it doesn't bold the word. Please help. Note: When I try traditional tags, like bold this, it works fine. But I want to make it work with backticks since that's what the help content on the post screen references.

Why can't the phrasing for the instructions be more specific, like giving an example? And why can't bbpress just use the word that everyone knows, like 'single apostrophe'?

Secondly, most people don't know what an 'a' is, or some of the other terms. This backtick content that comes with bbpress is not intuitive for the average person who doesn't use forums that often. It would be great if there was link to a help file so the user can be shown how to construct backticks with some of the tags displayed like ul, li, img, etc.

Found the problem, it is indeed a plugin issue (Allow Images), but deactivating the plugin had no effect for some reason and I only saw it when I worked on my test forum and did a fresh install of the plugin. The plugin still works to display images, you just can't display code.

After trying to add code between backticks, all I'm left with is something like this:

`

m

Instead of:

<img src="http://www.yourimghosthere.com/yourimage.gif" />

Deactivating plugins didn't fix it, and nothing else has changed other than the upgrade. Is anyone else running into this?

Edit: okay, at least now I know it works on the bbPress forums. I've no clue where to look to fix this, can anyone toss out an idea or two?

'code' works, so long as I don't include the brackets around the code I'm trying to show.

What I mean is, when I wrap text in backticks, it actually converts it to
<pre><code>
and removes the contents, replacing it with a random character, like an "n" or whatever.

I want to be able to just use backticks for code, but I can't. That's the problem.

Edit: Here's an example. I created a post that looks like this (swapping a backtick for "[backtick]" so it won't get eaten:
[backtick]test[backtick]

What it spit out is this (swapping parens for brackets so it wont get eaten):
(pre)(code)s`

Not sure of the effects of
code
in standard XHTML, could be styled pretty easily ... but perhaps it's just easiest to use both
pre
and
code
?

If I post code with the
<code>
tag it works fine, but if I use the backticks, " ` ", it munges the code like this:
