Dukessa: unfortunately, _e() (and __()) attempts to translate the string it is given - which means that if you try to call "_e(topic_time())", it will be interpreted as "_e("August 12, 2009")" (or whatever topic_time() outputs). The solution is to put translation functions inside the topic_time() function. Note however, that that would indeed translate "August" into "Augusti", but it won't fix the order (it'll still go "month day, year") nor the capitalization (in Swedish, months are spelled with lowercase first letter unless in the beginning of a sentence). In WordPress, the order problem is solved by an admin setting for the date format, but the capitalization issue remains.

I hope that explains it. If I have the time some day, I'll try to submit a patch for it to be fixed in the next version.

It doesnt translate into my local language, even though months, days etc, are translated in the lang file.
When I use _e('something to translate') everything is fine, but calling directly topic_time() doesnt translate anything.

How do I wrap topic_time() into _e() ? or... what is the correct way to translate time?

I just realized today if you are using a bunch of plugins that have their options stored in the bbpress meta, your query count has jumped on every page in bbPress 1.0.x

Apparently 1.0 now has a reserved list of option names that are pre-loaded, instead of *all* of them like 0.9 could. Plugins have to add their desired names to the pre-caching option, which of course 100% of all pre-exisiting plugings are not aware of, so they all cause an extra query in 1.0

This isn't a magic bullet by any means but you can at least fix this behavior. There isn't any flag you can turn on to cache all (that would be far too easy) but you can fool the routine by loading all the options before it gets around to it.

Simply make the below into a mini-plugin, or right click here
and save as
_load-options.php
in your
my-plugins/
directory

I strongly suggest you save it with a leading underscore so it auto-loads.

<?php
/*
Plugin Name: Load Options
*/

global $bbdb;
$results = $bbdb->get_results( "SELECT meta_key, meta_value FROM $bbdb->meta WHERE object_type = 'bb_option' ");
foreach ( $results as $options ) {
 wp_cache_delete( $options->meta_key, 'bb_option_not_set' );
 wp_cache_set( $options->meta_key, maybe_unserialize( $options->meta_value ), 'bb_option' );

If you’re concerned about bells and whistles, your best bet might be to stick with version 9.0, since there are many more plugins that are known to be compatible. Right now, trying to use the older plugins on 1.0.1 might get you a lot of honks and farts instead.

I have incorporated Tommie's metadata changes into the translation file I've made (and changed "sullat" to tappat"). Both .po and .mo files are still available at http://dropbox.jobjorn.se/bbpress-sv_SE.zip

There are a few differences between my translation file and Tommie's - mainly, his file uses "etikett" and "ämne" where I use "tagg" and "tråd" (the corresponding english words are "tag" and "topic"/"thread"). There are a few other differences, too.

I've uploaded a diff file for the really curious: http://dropbox.jobjorn.se/tommievsplrk.diff

Thanks Tommie! My forum looks better and better thanks to you and plrk.

A small suggested change in the registration form: "Position" should be changed to "Plats".

I use bbPress 1.0.1. To make it possible for users to register with Swedish or other non-acii names I use Cyrillian Nickname http://bbpress.ru/downloads/plugins/

To prevent spam robots I also use Human Test available at http://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/human-test/ I have translated the few phrases in the plugin. Write me a pm if you want it (I tried to make it available at my site but could not place a php-file there. Should it be zipped?)

Total newbie here, but I'm a blogger using WordPress 2.8.x who is thinking of adding a discussion forum to my site.

I am NOT a coder whatsoever, so please keep that in mind when answering, although I do have a friend who is one but I would need to be conscientous about using his time.

My question is whether bbPress 1.0 will easily integrate with WP 2.8.x as I have it currently configured. Obviously I'd want it to look similar to my site and have all the standard forum bells/whistles.

If not, does anyone have any other suggestions? I just began researching forums today. I've come across IPB and phpBB as other options, but again, I have no idea how easy it would be to integrate those.

Any help you can give would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks.
