Well, that was definitely the problem.

I have the bbpress directory in the wordpress directory, and had the language parameter set in both. I read your post above, set the lang in bbpress to '', and viola! It worked immediately.

It took me forever to find this post, but I'm glad it was posted. I would have died of old age before I figured that out on my own.

Ah, great! I've been translating bbPress to portuguese to use on my WPMU+bbPress project and when I try to set the language I get the error as well....

Anyways, I guess I'll have to try merging the two PO files.

@ganzua, I don't think you really need to define BBLANGDIR - it works because you have already defined the .mo file in WP config file. You get the error *if* you try to define BBLANG. However, if you leave BBLANG as '', you won't get the error.

I actually haven't tried yet, but I think it make sense.

Hi Ganzua, Thanks for taking the time to explain this to me. I believe, as you say, that it is not the best solution but, apparently, the only one at the moment (?).

I wonder how did other users managed to translate their integrated bbpress.

Thanks again!

"hi, I have the same problem. Has anyone found a way to integrate and change the language without errors?"

I managed to translate a wp-bb integration but I don't know if you are going to like my workaround;

1. edit bbpress config.php and in define language section point to your wp language file with this code; ' define('BBLANGDIR', 'wp-includes/languages/es_ES.mo'); ' (change es_ES.mo for the name of your language .mo file)

2. edit wp language .po file and insert there your bbpress .po file. In other words, copy/paste all bbpress entries at the end of wp .mo file

3. Open with poedit and try to save this modifed file. You're going to have +-100 duplicated entries in an error log. Delete all duplicated entries, one by one, so you can save.

4. When you save with poedit you produce 2 files; .po file and a .mo file. This .mo file is the one you want. Now you have translated both; wp and bbpress with just one .mo file.

I do know that this workaround implies a lot of future problems and I don't like it at all but I didn't find any other way.

I hope someday bbpress will appear as a plugin for wordpress.

Things certainly seem to be quiet. I'm also guessing that mdawaffe is busy with WordPress work, I saw a few notes mentioning him in some of the recent WordPress commits.

I haven't been doing much bbPress work recently either, I've been too busy on another open source project that is actually my full-time employment. I only have one outstanding ticket on the bbPress dev site without a patch attached (I don't have commit access), and I have already developed a plugin for that. I only pick up tickets that interest me though, and none have come up recently that I have liked the looks of and thought I could commit time to.

I do plan to hit the bbpulp.org documentation site with a few more updates soon though.

Yup. I think it is, I heard about it in the context of bb a while back. No news, no secrets, although there seems to be some code for view management in the bb-includes which may mean that a proper views system will be introduced (... sometime).

I can understand the concerns about JavaScript being written into the core. The point that cool2sv and others are making is that all the javascript that is written inline into the core code could be removed and the same functionality could be provided by adding events to DOM objects in external scripts. By doing this we could abstract away the absolute need for any particular JavaScript library, even though we would almost certainly include one in the core. If this was done then people could emulate the JavaScript functionality included in the core using other JavaScript libraries that better suit them. It is a cleaner and more flexible approach. That being said, there is quite a lot of work and testing to be done to achieve this for what may generally have limited benefit. Still, I think it should be considered and maybe even ticketed as an enhancement.

@kernow

Although bbpress does not want to become a bloated forum software, it would always evolve to enable capabilities to be added via plugins. As and when requests come in for features, it would be evaluated on the basis of whether it needs to be in a core or as a plugin - and if it needs to be a plugin, hooks will be provided for plugin developers to built *any* feature.

cheers!

It'd be better as a plugin for WordPress, with the obvious option not to activate it, and the opportunity to deactivate it without affecting the function of WordPress.

Of, thank you guys for reply...
@Trent
I'm sorry, maybe I did not explained myself clearly:
I appreciate the thing that developers like the accessibility given by ajax, and are using this in their application, but the point was to leave the core functions that are for displaying content (like wp_list_pages(); for example in wordpress) outside of ajax.
You're right wordpress uses ajax in the core but the templating part and the content is not affected at all (only the admin CP). This way we have ajax but only where it is really necessary.
Sorry for bugging, I do understand that my problem is not the #1 priority of the project team but I was thinking maybe there is any solution, thats why I reported that. Sorry ...
@Null
Maybe the problem was in the marketing. bbPress was from the start advertised as perfectly compatible and easy to be integrated with WordPress. That is a great advantage, because WordPress is already one of the most usable publishing platform on the web, and people like everything that comes with it - as a result they took bbPress as an another plugin for giant. =]

I also think people should realize that bbPress isn't dsigned to be a plugin for WP in any way and the developers should keep in mind to not develop too much towards this too.

It's a standalone forum, fast and light and should stay this way :D

I know that you are frustrated cool2sv because WP and bbPress both use different AJAX, but it really only matters when you are doing what you are trying to do with running them both at the same time. Most users won't be affected by this same problem you are having.

I am not saying what the developers of bbPress has done is 100% the right direction with AJAX in the core, but it was designed to be standalone and work that way. The WP integration was with logins and not developed to have them sharing libs. I have passed this on to mdawaffe, but the redesign of bbPress and its use of AJAX in the core most likely won't be the #1 priority. WP uses AJAX in the core and so does bbPress. So which one should be blame? Automattic developers like AJAX in the core!

**Edit** As well, you could sent your request into the bbDevList as well. Just head over to the about page for the address!

I hope development team had a look on this thread:

What kind of features will bbpress have say in a year's time? Considering it does not want to go down the path of a 'bloated forum', are there any useful features which will become standard in a future release?

I am over my head when combining WP and bbPress functions and know next to nothing with Ajax. Hopefully mdawaffe (Michael) will see this post or head over to http://bbpress.org/about/development/ and see if you can contact him another way!

Currently i'm trying to develop something using wordpress & bbpress.
Everything flows pretty good when talking on functionality and the rest of features, but there is a problem.
Actually 2 problems. First I already posted here: http://bbpress.org/forums/topic/867
And now the second one:
The final release has to be in another language but english. It's true, I found no troubles translating bbpress in my language and the rest of updated wordpress. But after what I've integrated both of api's: the wordpress and bbpress; this resulted in the following error:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class streamreader in /var/www/pm/forum/bb-includes/streams.php on line 26

I suppose it's because of the translations, cause when I did not defined BBLANG, everything worked well.
After a bit I thought, that a solution for my problem can be joining both of the bbpress and wordpress translation .mo's and defining just WPLANG for my language settings. That worked, but I dont see this as a pretty simple and accessible solution for everybody!
I would be glad getting some help on that, If there is any other more easier solution, that would be cool.

I wasn't asking to remove the whole ajax staff.
I was asking to reduce it. Once we need only ajax http requests feature, why we should use the whole lib?
Can't we just write a function for that?
It would be also great to had the possibility of including or not including any ajax libs in forums API, those already predefined and distributed with the bbPress or WordPress?!
Still unresolved.....
