Hi, I'm trying to list topics from the forum in a WP post. I'm wanting to just show the topics that have the same tags as the particular post that is being viewed.

This is basically a display relevant posts. How can this be done? I've tried a bunch of PHP, but I'm not having luck navigating the codex between the two databases. I've mucked around alot, but I can't get beyond the basic display the last 10 posts functionality.

Here's where I'm at: HELP?

<?php

global $wpdb;
$query="SELECT * FROM bb_topics WHERE topic_status=0 ORDER BY topic_time DESC LIMIT 10";
$results=$wpdb->get_results($query);

foreach ($results as $result) {echo "

topic_id."'>".$result->topic_title."

Help! I am a designer, NOT a programmer...I finished up a site for a client last week that included a forum and today we are getting this message: ERROR: Could not establish a database connection. I have a more tech savvy friend trying to help me but I can't figure it out.

Any suggestions? Thank you so much!

Update, the bb_admin folder cannot be reached... strange! it is on the server but the url says: Oops! This link appears to be broken.

When users register on my bbPress installation, they receive a URL to login. Except the URL to login is the bbPress install location, not the URL of the bbPress install as it sits inside my Wordpress site design. How can I change the URL in that e-mail?

If that wasn't clear, here's what I mean. The registration e-mail is forwarding users to http://www.chengduliving.com/bbpress but where I want them to go is http://www.chengduliving.com/forum

I recently changed the database host names across several sites. Nothing else changed except that.

I changed the database host names for all my wordpress installs in the config files, and they all work now.

However, simply changing the database host names in the config files for my bbpress installs did not work. I have 2 bbpress installs, and they both say "Error: Could not establish a database connection." I then tried to edit the host name where I found it in the database, and it still does not work.

My question is what have I done wrong? Why would changing the database host name make it not work when every other database connection works?

spencerp on "MediaWiki, bbPress, and WordPress integration.."

Ok people, here's the deal.. I've installed MediaWiki 1.8.2 on my domain: http://codex.spencerp.net/ and customized the links for it and so forth.. no big deal right... ?

What I have done so far is (in this order)..
1) Integrated bbPress to my WordPress blog.. So anyone that registers on my bbPress forums, is automatically registered into my WP blog. Usernames and Passwords work for BOTH..

2) Applied the bbPress_Auth_for_MediaWiki extension to my MediaWiki.. However, I had to use some of the modifications listed here.

Now, people can login to my MediaWiki with the usernames and passwords from either the WP blog, or the forums.. ;):)

The ONLY problem I'm having now, is.. having users register for a new account on my MediaWiki "Create New Account" page.. sigh.. I'm getting the following error..
http://codex.spencerp.net/Special:Userlogin?type=signup&returnto=Main_Page

"Login error:
There was either an external authentication database error or you are not allowed to update your external account."

Which is obviously saying, it's trying to create a new account in the MediaWiki database.. but, where really it should be trying to make a new account in my WP database.. right? Or, that might be meaning the other way around.. I'm not sure.

My questions are:
1) Is there a way to modify the "Create New Account" page, with the WP register page codes? So, when someone tries to create a new account on my MediaWiki itself.. it calls the WP database for it?

Or..
2) Just modify the MediaWiki file, that contains the "Create Account" link, and use the link to the registration page for the WP blog itself? And if so, which MediaWiki file does this reside in?

I guess I'd rather have it simple.. and just implement the WP registration codes, into the MediaWiki file.. so there is no redirecting of the "Create Account" link in my MediaWiki..

Or, does someone know of an "extension" for MediaWiki.. that synchronizes the MediaWiki & WordPress registrations? Thanks in advanced.. ;) :)

spencerp
/It's ALMOST totally there now.. the way I want her.. just that dang Registration problem on the MediaWiki sigh.

By the way, you have to be registered and signed-in, to edit my Wiki.. whee! Which means, you'll have to register on my blog, or forums first! This is why I'd like to get this MediaWiki registration figured out soon sigh..

"An invalid configuration file was found at bb-config.php
The installation cannot continue.
Usually this is caused by one of the database connection settings being incorrect. Make sure that the specified user has appropriate permission to access the database."

hi

i'm using mysty theme

I need to change the upload dimensions for the new header image under the custom header function in Appearance
presently images are cropped to 760 x 200 px when i upload the custom header
i've recently widened the template to reflect 880 x 200 for the header image
as you can see here http://theblackkeysfanlounge.com, i need to upload the header image as 880 x 200 px to fill the available space
So, I can't find where in the files I can alter theme to change the upload dimensions. Does anyone know where and how to make this change?
thanks in advance
I already tried to include the functions from "functions.bb-pluggable.php" etc. but that's a mess and don't work.
So I need wheter a API/Bridge or how the password is encrypted.

I'm trying to change the post author link which is displayed as 'Key Master' (for example) to 'User profile'. Tried lots of variations having looked through the bbPress template functions file, but can't get it to work. The top part of my post.php code is this at present;

<div class="threadauthor">
 <?php avatarupload_display(get_post_author_id()); ?>
 <p>
 <strong><?php post_author_link(); ?></strong><br />
 <small><?php post_author_title(); ?></small>
 </p>
	</div>

The post_author_link() line becomes;

<a href="http://mbforum.letsdoo.org/profile/michael">Key Master</a>

I realise I'm just not grasping how the PHP code/functions work, so if anyone thinks, "Oh yeah, all you do is..." I'd be very grateful for an answer.

Hi,

Is there a way to to shift bbpress to sessions (temporary cookies) instead of true cookies?

I need the forum to allow people to login on public computers where there are restrictions on cookies and I've been told that moving over to sessions will allow this.

Hello. I notice on my fresh and clean installation that when I use "quotation marks" or when I use an apostrophe in contractions (can't, shouldn't, etc.), a backslash appears.

"quotation marks" --> \"quotation marks\"
can't --> can\'t

I don't know what's causing this.

I have my own dedicated server, so I'm in complete control of everything.

also i added a user-agent switcher addon (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/59) on my firefox, but even if the user-agent is recognized as safari 4.0 mobile -- tracked by getclicky, the website is not being shown in a mobile friendly version.

Upgrading bbpress from 0.9.0.2 to 1.0.2
I also have WP installed, same DB & standard table prefixes (bb_ and wp_)
This is my test site, so I don't have 'active' WP / BB integration

I'm on Media Temple Grid Server
DB Server is version 5.1.26-rc-5.1.26rc
MySQL Client is 4.1.11

When I followed the instructions on Upgrading, I mistakenly went to 'install.php' instead of 'upgrade.php'. I don't think this was a big deal though, because I wiped out the install directory and tried a 'clean' upgrade - with the same results.

I get all the way through to step 3, and I receive a 'minor' error that my Database is out of date & needs upgraded. I click 'okay' to upgrade...and I receive this error:

ERROR: Could not establish a database connection

I have gone through my wp-config and my new (and backed up versions of) the bb-config docs, and all are pointing to the correct db server, host, username, password, etc.

When I did the first install - it actually presented me with my main 'forums' page (I knew it was upgraded, because of the new theme). My posts were there. When I tried logging into the 'admin' area of bbPress, I got the ERROR: Could not establish a database connection reply again.

What am I missing? Is the 'initial' mistake of running the 'install' versus 'upgrade' script my downfall? How can I recover?

many thanks

When I moved to a new host (Media Temple), I also upgraded to RC1. I skipped RC2 and I'm currently running RC3.

Ever since I switched, I have had three occasions in which bbPress informed me that I needed to upgrade the database. I get this message when I go to the admin panel. Fist I notice that certain plugins aren't activated (which were activated previously), and so I go to the admin panel and get the upgrade massage.

Here are the upgrade messages:

Beginning upgrade…
Tags copied to taxonomy tables: bb_upgrade_1080
Display names populated: bb_upgrade_1090
Index forum_stickies dropped: bb_upgrade_1100
>>> Done

Is this a problem with my host? A bbPress bug? Hacking? Could it be related to my recount problem (see my previous post for info)?

Thanks in advance...

Ok, so I have wordpress 2.51 fully integrated with bbpress 0.9.0.2. I had a friend who I wanted to show the backend so I had him register and I figured I would then change his membership level to admin. So he registered via Wordpress (which is using the register plus plugin) and it worked fine. He had subscriber status on WP and member status on BB. However, when I upgraded him via WP and it gave him admin status in WP but it didn't change his status in BB, he is still just a member.

Do I have to manually change this or is there a way to have it automatically change?

Just doing some searching and see that RSS feeds for forums were broken. I discovered this myself when I tried to load my forum feeds for my new site into Google Reader today and it couldn't find the feed. I have updated my code with the patch update and feed validator says my feed is fine, but it still won't load in Google Reader.

From what I've read on the forums there was a wide spread problem, but I can't seem to locate if there was ever a definite solution. I am running the latest WP with BBpress 1.0.2 with deep integration.

Anything I can do to fix this? RSS feeds for my forums are pretty vital because this particular site won't have posts, just pages for research content, and forums for feedback and discussion.

Thanks

(You can see even by that url that there IS a post.)

I recently setup a bbpress-based forum.
There's a hot topic with 1500 posts and about 100 new daily posts.

If two users will post simultaneously (same post_time and post_position in bb_posts table), the posts count is 1 less the real.

When a new page is required, the pages number is one less (and new post unreachable) until a second new post is added.
The post recount tool in Administration will not fix the problem: I have to manually edit the bb_topics table
