What about the backtick functionality I keep seeing in the forums? From what I can guess, this is supposed to let you embed html tags (or similar) in a forum reply between backticks and have those tags show up (encoded) in the reply. Is this only a feature of 2.1 as well? It's not working right now on my forum. This is really the only functionality I need right now.

For bbPress 2.02 user, I recommend you to use Rich Text Editor For Comments which is using jWYSIWYG, although it's may be a bit hard for beginners to configure it as it lack a setting page.

You can style the editor if you hate the default styling, provided that you know some CSS stuff.

I'm using BBPress 2.0.2.

What Section is it under on the settings page (Main Settings, Per Page, Per RSS Page,...)?

Also, users can't enter anything that looks like xhtml tags. It gets deleted when submitted. How can I enable this as well?

I'm currently using bbPress Post Toolbar and find it kind of lacking.

Then use some css to remove everything except the avatars.

I think there is some issue with the download links for bbPress plugins ( Hopefully all of them), they are reporting 404.

Have you tried Settings > Forum? :)

Unless you're talking about conditionally toggling the mode, in which case you're on your own to build that as a plugin, similar to WordPress.

What is the chance of getting threaded comments added to group forums?

In addition, it would also be fabulous if Forum topics could also be setup to be organized by category. Or better yet, as in some of the nicer online wiki’s the forum directory being able to be edited by the admin so that items in the forum directory and be placed in grouplets or in any order other than first come last posted.

There is also a minor bug in the Mute – Follow option when the bp – editor plugin is added to forums, which results in the follow-mute button being almost completely obscured at the bottom where new comments are to be started.

I'm confused here, how do I enable the users to insert images?

I'm using 2.1 and but even me as an administrator don't see add any image upload or insert options when posting.

EDIT: To clarify, I can see the options when posting from the admin section, but not from the forums.

I've been working a lot with version 2.0.2, and I have had a lot of problems. I didn't want to upgrade to 2.1 because it wasn't a stable version. But i eventually did upgrade to 2.1 and let me tell you, it solved a lot of my problems.

My bbpress standalone 1.0.2 forum was using Human Test quite successfully up until last week, when it mysteriously quit working. It thinks everybody is a nonhuman. The few spam posts that appeared I did not mind deleting manually, then I would manually delete that user also.

Now I am getting about 50 new registrations every night (normally I get zero to one per day). Not a lot of spam posts, oddly enough.

So next I tried Akismet. It boasted that it was blocking 25 spams a night. But there is nowhere to check these spams--really? An email to the Akismet folks got me the reply that they don't have a clue where bbpress stores spams.

I would much rather block registrants than posts. Does bbpress 2.x have any protective measures built in, or are there any good plugins? Does 2.x play nicer with Akismet?

That explains why, when I come here looking for spam-fighting solutions, I turn up so much spam. :(
