Last I checked it seemed like Matt (the only developer I've seen around here) had his hat full with suggestions and left with that, quite some time ago now. I reckon if there is a future for bbPress it's already set into motion some way or another. If that future is as a plug-in, I don't worry at all.

Wordpress is becoming a whole lot more than a blog these days; in some ways, a whole lot less. Way I see it, I wouldn't be surprised if by Wordpress 3.5 or 4.0, Wordpress isn't really a blog, but a plain extensible web development platform, making the blog functionality yet another 'plug-in' (that hovers).

@crosescu - there's an interesting argument that would say more people would use wordpress (and for that matter bbPress too) if the codebase werent a monolithic structure. For instance, the ability to swap out user authentication to do single-signon against a Kerberos server rather than the built-in user-auth, or against the code in Mediawiki, should I want to integrate there. My hope is that merging yet more code in wont cause the entire house of cards to collapse around our ears.

It makes perfect sense for making bbPress a plugin for WordPress.
Now that WordPress MU code has been merged into WordPress 3.0 making bbPress a plugin should be even easier. bbPress already barrows a lot of code from WordPress anyway and also bbPress uses the exact same database tables (ie taxonomy tables)

A lot more people would be using bbPress on their WordPress powered websites if the issues related to the integration of the two separate login systems no longer existed and people were also able to easily use the same theme they have on their blog.
The standalone bbPress should probably stay but i think bbPress would be used by a lot more people than it is now if it was made a plugin.

Is there any way to achieve it without editing files? I don't know bbpress plugin API clearly....

Hi,everyone,

The default tags page is like

example.com/tags.php?tag={tag_name}

but I want to make the url like

example.com/tags.php?id={tag_id},

is there any way to make it? could it be done by a plugin?

I have to do so because using the tag's name in url may lead to being blocked by Chinese government's Internet censorship.

thanks.

Hello,

Just wondering what the status is on 1.1. Is there a beta available to test?

We really need people to be able to post without creating a account. Also email notifications are pretty essential.

We are tried some of the existing plugins, but they don't seem to cut it.

WP forums use bbpress. The Post form address is http://wordpress.org/support/bb-post.php for the Post button on WP forums. But for a guy who says Code is Poetry, it is really sad that he isn't even allowing many people to participate actually. Last day I talked with a developer who has created many plugins for bbpress. He said Matt replied to his mail asking him to just stay on track, when he aksed about joining the bpress developers. Matt please shed some light. Should we continue using bbpress or do we need to find an alternative?

On the latest post's section, they must seen as every other post. So that the sticky's aren't more important then the freshness of every post.
Example:
I made a normal post on 16 march 12:11
I have made a sticky post: 16 march 12:12

Now is the sticky post the newest post in the latest post section. That is good, but when i made another topic / reaction at 16 march 12:40.
The sticky topic stay's above the newest post. I want that the sticky topic at that moment comes under that other post (16 march 12:40). Because that post is newer then the sticky.

I hope you understand me.

You could modify the front-page.php template file to just skip the sticky posts altogether. Looks like you would remove lines 24 through 32 of front-page.php in your template files. Just remove the whole block dealing with stickies in the front-page.php file. You could change the conditional on line 11 as well, but so long as you have topics, it will be fine even if you leave it.

Hello,

I want to know the name of the User that is logged in (the name that he is registered, so not viewed on the forum. Most of the time, people change there name to look it better for forum post's and comments. But i want the real name.)
So not bb_get_current_user_info('name'); because then i get the name dat is displayed on the site.

Another thing is: Is there a plugin, or trick to let Wordpress and BBPress more cooperate between them? Because, if i know logged in on wordpress, is must do exactly the same thing on bbpress. But i want logged in on wordpress and in the same time logged in in bbpress too. So then i don't need to login twice on the same website.

@r-a-y

I hope it will turn out to be just how you say. I've been deciding for a while now whether to use bbPress or another forum/board software, and can can finally be sure that bbPress is the way to go.

I've tried out SMF and phpBB and those two are so complicated and un-user-friendly, there's no comparison.

I really hope Automattic doesn't abandon but rather invests its might and power into bbPress.

"Yeah but u can't have standalone forums in BuddyPress 1.2
They are limited to groups only."
You can install a standalone bbPress forum and share user database and cookies with BuddyPress quite easy... Just fill the bb-config.php before running the setup.

They are limited to groups only. Some find it a problem.
