I also tried posting a new topic and I got a 404 error…
Upgraded to RC3 and I can no longer get to any of my topics.. I can see them listed but I only get 404 errors when I click on any of my topics. I reloaded the release from the branch but no change.. Do we have release #2 available somewhere?
I though maybe I could back of one version and see if it still works.. If there is still an error then I thought I would shut down all the plugins to see if that is it…
But I haven’t activated any new plugins recently so I don’t think that is it… Bu maybe the new release is having troubles with one of the ones already installed…
Hmmmm.

We’re all hitting this now… I hope that he can get us a simple update to fix it…
I haven’t seen anything that would allow them to register with their facebook account… I assume there may be a way to do this but using this to by pass the registration process is what I was thinking that way they could comment or reply with out becoming a registered user.
I don’t know if something like this is even practical.. I just assume all of you are more experienced with this so I look to learn what is working for you.
I’m not a code hacker (editing the PHP is a mystery to me.. I can do it as long as some says what the insertion point is… (has to be dummy proof for me)…
I updated to RD2 2.0 and I haven’t seen any glitches but I don’t have very many users and I’m going to try to sticky and super sticky topic post and see what happens…
Is there a PDF online that will tell me what these thing should do versus what I see them actually do?

Does anyone let unregistered users post topics and comments?
Also I was wondering if any thought for down the road towards letting them login with their facebook login. I see that with many forums now-a-days. But I figure that would be a future issue to tackle…

@ratsoid2 I put your code (minus the xxxx) into a page and previewed it but all I get is the code on the page.. If I’m supposed to change out the username or other info then you will have to tell us to do that also…
Also what is the comment profile link? Is this my admin profile? or my comments? I would find this not very interesting…
I’m more interested in the guy’s feeds above to get info on who has been creating topics and the info in those feeds…
I’ve only got a few users so far and I can keep up with things but if it gets busy I’m going to want to see a control shell that shows the info as it happens in the forum.

I was wondering… will there be a way for users of the forum to be able to post pictures down the road? Can they do it now? or do they need to know html posting codes SRC or the like to put a picture into the forum for others to enjoy…
My forum is a fall foliage in New England http://jeff-foliage.com/fall-foliage-forum/ and I’m getting some interest in the forum but it’s very light yet. It would be nice if they could upload directly but that might be dicey… So I assume they would have to host it somewhere like Picassa and then link back to the forum…
It would be nice though to just have the code there that they click a button to find it online or if they have the code from their site they could paste it in while it’s being hosted at their storage location…
I currently only have three topics so I can follow along… I have made them all favorites… What does that achieve?
Next I clicked subscribe.. What does that do. I tried to see if that was an RSS feed and get all comments funneled to my outlook rss reader.
I thought having all new postings go to my outlook reader would be good… Am I correct or does the subscribe do something else?

@Trifon I made the change per your last.. http://jeff-foliage.com/fall-foliage-forum/ and I think your’re correct that this will make it more user friendly… Of course if anyone else has suggestions I will be happy to consider them also…
I had a server issue and the admins were scrambling to try to figure out why is was dog sh*t slow… Well it seems to be back among the living and running nice and fast.. I hope not to many here got fed up with that…
It’s looking good as far as I can tell… Oh! if anyone feels I have earned a +1 on the page, feel free… I’m trying to get some more traffic..
aren’t we all?One thing that might be nice is an email when a post is made so I can follow up.. This won’t be good if the forum got real active but when I only get one a day it would be nice to see new comments…
I’m assuming that new replies is where I should look for comments and if someone posts a new topic it will show up there.. If I had my way though I would want one page that shows both new comments/replies/topics all on one page… This I don’t seem to have with RC1 release… Unless it’s buried somewhere and I haven’t seen it..

@Trifon, (As far as functionality that I’d like to se…) I wouldn’t mind seeing a real admin page that tells me who has been posting and a 24 hour snapshot of activity. (sort of like a google analytics snapshot)
I moved all my forum functions (login and so forth) from the side panel to it’s own page which is accessed from the menu bar at the top of the page. I would love feedback of my forum page from this group of people who I feel have a clue…
My page is http://www.jeff-foliage.com and on the menu bar it’s foliage forum. You can also use the contact function but I think having a critique back here would be more beneficial to others.
I just want to know if I’m missing anything

Thanks I added the short code to create a new page that shows up on the menu line. I used the following…
[bbp-login]
[bbp-register]
[bbp-lost-pass]
[bbp-topic-index]
[bbp-topic-form]
At this location..

My only question is there anything better I can do with the shortcodes to implement the login and register page?
Jeff
do we have any examples of registration forms that others are using.. I just saw the short codes this after noon and I am incorporating one into my next blog article. Right now I have the forum listing on the left side of my sidebar to let people know that it’s there..
I thought that by using the short code to put it into different posts I can get some traction there… Right now I have no real visitors for the most part… I would just like to get Fall foliage questions from visitors there since I’ve seen those questions come up in google searches already…
I’m not sure what it can do and If anyone wants to strut their stuff and post their forum, I’ll come take a look…
If I look at yours maybe you’ll come take a look at mine…
I’m now using 2.0 RC-1 but the backend doesn’t look all that different. Are there other plugins needed for further functionality?
I’d like to see a login or register right out front and maybe I’m just implementing this wrong as part of my blog.
http://www.jeff-foliage.com and it’s halfway down the right side with options for forum topics and conversations.
Also what themes natively support BBpress?
Well I would be happy to test it further, the plugin says its bbPress is forum software with a twist from the creators of WordPress. Version 2.0-beta-3
This is a plugin straight from the wordpress site I looked over the release page but I’m not sure I wanted to take a chance killing what I had…
But I can take a look at putting the files directly onto the server which is the way we used to do it. I just haven’t done it that way since they made the auto update so damn functional…
So yes I would be happy to test it out since I don’t have much into mine as of now… I noticed it did get indexed in Google for several keywords and that made me real happy… Love that SEO…
I’m using 2.0 beta 3 and it’s live on my site. http://www.jeff-foliage.com I have only had one person try it and one thing I’ve noticed (which I assume will be fixed in the final RC) is up front in your face logging in or registering of users. right now the plugin uses the subscriber permissions to be able to post to the forum but to me it seems really obscure for them to get going.
I’m also using a plugin that checks ip addresses to prevent spammers from creating accounts and I’m not sure if this will affect the final RC and creating new accounts.
I’m waiting for a RC since I don’t want to mess with manually updating the files on the server.
I hope there is a RC before fall since my site is all about fall foliage in New England and from here out until 1 Nov is my busy season..
I’ts looking good and I hope you get some good donations from this…
