Which version of bbPress are you using, plugin (2.0) or standalone (0.x or 1.x)
I’m pretty sure that’s it for options. Plugins for the plugin version of bbPress are installed the same way regular WP plugins are installed.

Another option is to create a page, title it whatever you like but I titled my example “Forum”. Put “[bbp-forum-index]” including the brackets as the content of the page and publish it.
Then go to Settings -> Reading in the Admin panel. Change the “Front Page Displays” option to page and select “Forum” or whatever you named the page.

Going to http://www.laughsonthenet.com/forums (with an s) will take you to your forum. You can change it at /wp-admin/options-general.php?page=bbpress.
Try /wp-admin/options-general.php?page=bbpress if you are using the plugin. I haven’t used standalone in a while.
Please keep in mind you are working with beta software.
I don’t think I understand your question.
@JJJ – In which versions of BuddyPress and bbPress do you expect BuddyPress to use the plugin instead of the stand alone?
I wish I had a good answer for you, but I don’t know.
An importer is being made, but isn’t done yet. You can follow the progress of it here, http://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/1547.
Which one is better depends on your needs. I plan on switching my phpBB forum to bbPress because I think it better suites my needs.
The bbpress plugin will work with Akismet so spam shouldn’t be a problem.
@JJJ – Will you put an update on http://bbpdevel.wordpress.com/
Plugins for bbPress-plugin and bbpress-standalone are different. I don’t expect too many plugins for bbpress-plugin to show up until it’s out of Beta.
@JJJ Thank you for the work you’ve put in and the reply.
@Gautam – Thank you. I used the wrong terminology in my question. I should have asked when will I be able to use the built-in WP updater to update the bbpress plugin?
Will the plugin be put in the repository when it reaches beta status or 1.0?
@wesleysoccer – No. Go to http://trac.bbpress.org/browser/branches/plugin and click on Zip Archive near the bottom.
I changed the name of the folder to bbpress on my 3.1 installation, but I don’t think it was required.
On my 3.1 rc4 installation I have multi-site enabled and it only shows up in my Network Admin plugin menu, not the plugin menu for any of the single sites.
I just reinstalled it on my 3.0.5 installation. I left the folder named “plugin” and it appears to be working as expected, so I guess we need someone smarter than me to respond so we can figure out what’s going on.
Are you running 3.1 or 3.0.x?
The themes folder can stay where it is.
When you unzip the download you’ll have a folder called “branches” and a subfolder called “plugin”. I’m assuming you uploaded the branches folder when the plugin folder is the one that needs to be uploaded.
@jjj – Thank you.
Thanks Rich.
Tickets @1457 & 1460 are closed, implying the /wp-admin forwarding to /login issue is fixed, but it’s not for me on my test install running bbpress 2859 on WP 3.1 rc3. There are 39 other plugins installed, but none of the other plugins are active and I’m using the Twenty for bbpress theme. Any advice?
@Rich Pedley – Yes. I think I lost the ability to login at 2814. /wp-admin redirects me to /login, which gives me an error saying the page cannot be found.
