If this would not work then the legacy plugins should all be tagged "legacy" and only de-tagged when they are known to be compatible and tested against a stable released version. Similarly no plugin should be accepted without a statement of Requires bbPress and Tested/Compatible with . Similarly if it is a WordPress/bbPress interfacing plugin it should also state the WordPress versions required/compatibile.
